Anthony Campbell is hard at work promoting his album entitled "Release Me". After winning the NBC TODAY SHOW Super-Star contest and performing live on national TV at the Rockefeller Center plaza, Anthony Campbell has been in high demand. After generating a loyal following, he’s kept busy performing and making public appearances. In addition, Anthony found himself co-writing his entire record with esteemed record producer Chris Estes, President of Bestes Music Productions. It’s not surprising that Anthony is embarking on a new career as an international recording artist.
Music has always been a part of Anthony’s life. Born and raised in King George, Virginia as the youngest of four children in a musical family, he grew up singing gospel music in church and was a very dedicated member of youth choir. Anthony began playing piano in junior high school. It was then that he started writing, playing, and singing his own songs. Anthony quotes, “I sang all throughout high school performing locally, but never considered pursuing my music until the Today Show. After receiving national exposure and performing before millions of viewers, I realized I could make this a career.”
Some of Anthony’s biggest musical influences include Stevie Wonder, Prince, and Brian McKnight. While writing for his current debut, Anthony and his producer decided to mix the sound of Anthony’s soulful voice with elements of R&B, Pop, and Rock. Says Anthony, “I wanted to write music that would appeal to a diverse audience and give them something different, something new.”
Aside from having a smooth-as-honey baritone voice, he is a naturally gifted entertainer. “I believe that as a performer I have the ability to draw my audience in, like an actor in a movie. My song lyrics are easy to identify with because I write from the standpoint of emotions that we all share. I love to sing songs about relationships and love.” Anthony, who is married with two children, often relies on his own life experiences for many of his lyrical ideas.
Anthony insists that his new record breaks down all stereotypes that are usually associated to categorize African-American artists. Anthony quotes, “Right after the Today Show, people expected me to make either a gospel album or hip-hop album. But what we’ve done is something that people would never expect to hear.”
